How to Look After Your Voice: Top Vocal Tip #8 of 12

#8. Coughing

Coughing is to be avoided if at all possible as it slams the vocal folds together at roughly a hundred miles per hour!

If you have a very tickly cough, inhaling steam is the best remedy. You can also try sipping a mixture called ‘Buttercup syrup’ available from any good chemist or try a spoonful of honey or glycerin. If you really are suffering you could try drinking hot milk and sugar or honey – only for a dry cough. Dairy products can cause excessive mucous production, which you can use to your advantage if your throat has lost its natural moist coating.
